David began his professional music career as a band leader while studying music and communications at San Jose State University in California. His early bands opened for such greats as Jefferson Airplane, Greatful Dead, Creedence Clearwater, Chicago, Janis Joplin, Tower of Power, and many, many more. In the early 80's he recorded two albums for a PBS television special and received an Emmy. During this time he recorded with Cal Tjader, Ray Brown and Rosemary Clooney on Concord Jazz Records. For the past 12 years David has been one of Santa Clara, California's premier music educators. He was Teacher of the Year in 1990 for the San Jose Unified School District. He's recorded with a former pupil, keyboardist Zach Bonilla, completing a CD called "Cabana in Blue." David leads his own band, now called "David Ladd's Downtown Allstars". This 6-7 piece contemporary jazz band is made up of the premier musicians in the Bay Area. Their newly released CD, Are you ready to "Downtown" is doing well and getting more air play all the time. David is currently the band instructor at Buchser Middle School in Santa Clara. Year after year he mentors the next generation of fine musicians who will go on to someday have musical careers of their own. David Ladd is an excellent, gifted performer, a consummate professional and a tremendous asset to our community.
